Piano Lessons

Piano Lessons at Oak WhispersLearning to play piano is a wonderful support for all areas of a child’s development. Physically it improves coordination, increases body awareness, aids relaxation and develops dexterity. E.g. playing piano increases finger strength which may benefit children as they learn to hold a pencil and write for the first time.

Emotional benefits may include enhancement of self esteem and a greater understanding of emotion.

The door to a child’s creativity is opened as they explore, move, sing, listen and play music.

Finally, and very importantly, it is FUN! You are, after all, learning to PLAY the piano.

Adults too benefit in many of the same ways as children. For adults though there is often a tremendous boost and a huge sense of achievement when they sit down to the piano and play a piece of music they have loved all their lives.

Some things you will need to consider if you are thinking of taking up the piano.

Taking up the pianoFirstly, you will need to practice every day, even if it is only for 15 minutes. Consistency is vital in the development of necessary motor skills

Secondly, you must have access to a piano or at the very least a high quality touch sensitive keyboard. Personally, I ask that my students have access to a piano. Also the room where you practice needs to be free from distractions. It is a place where you will need to concentrate and listen intently.

Playing the piano is a huge commitment but one that reaps tremendous rewards throughout a lifetime. Take that first step today!
